PENELOPE SEASON

Hello my changing leaflettes!

I spent 62 days hiking about 730 miles on the northern 1/3 of the Appalachian Trail this summer, and boy are my legs tired.  Truly, I wonder if I'm just going to hobble forever.  But I have no regrets - it was brutal, beautiful and intensely magical.  I'm slowwwwwwly melting back into a life that includes a bed and daily showers, and I'm so grateful to be doing it mostly out of the city in proximity to plenty of trees and birds and creeks.  In fact, you can come join me this month if you fancy a quick trip to come peep these leaves and peep me in a production of my show "Penelope." The show has been out in the world for a bit but I haven't yet been able to inhabit the role I helped create - until now! It feels so juicy and electric to be working with conceiver and composer Alex Bechtel and director Eva Steinmetz (both of brilliant Philly based clown company Lightning Rod Special) on this beautiful piece again. If you can't make it up or/and you want to catch this little girl in a stripped down concert setting, we're recording a live album (!!!) at Joe's Pub in October and would love to fill the house with your beautiful energy to be captured and shared with the Penelope curious for all time!

Ancram Center for the Arts
September 19-28

Penelope is waiting…and waiting…and waiting for her husband, Odysseus, to return from a decade-long war. Given the rest of the soldiers came home years ago—forgive her, but she’s going to need a drink while she tells you about it. With a beautiful folk-inflected pop score backed by an onstage band of strings, piano, and drums, Penelope confides in us about her loneliness, her son’s disappearance, her suitors, her gods, her faith in her marriage—and ultimately, the faith that she must find within herself.
